Airbags

An airbag is a passive safety system designed to inflate a fabric bag to absorb impact in the event of an automobile collision in order to protect vehicle occupants.

A microcontroller monitors a number of sensors such as G sensors, front sensors and satellite sensors. When a predefined threshold is exceeded, it sends a signal to trigger the ignition of the airbag.

Traditionally, systems which monitor potentially life-threatening situations have used a dual-core architecture in which a submicrocontroller monitors the working of the main microcontroller to ensure fail-safe operation.

Toshiba provides a unique single-core solution for fail-safe operations. In addition, Toshiba's dual-core architecture allows for fail-operational and fault-tolerant capabilities.

Toshiba also offers custom solutions for high-quality and high-performance hybrid devices that integrate digital, analog and power circuits. Various IP cores can be mixed according to customer needs, including interface units, power drivers and large logic blocks.
