Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)

An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is an active safety system designed to reduce the chances of a skid while braking and thus run-off-road accidents.  It is of the utmost importance for road safety.

The ABS system constantly monitors each wheel to determine if it is locking up and skidding, based on the rotational speed signals from each wheel and the braking force signal.  When the ABS system detects a condition indicative of an impending skid, it sends a signal to a solenoid to reduce the braking pressure at the affected wheel.

Traditionally, systems which monitor potentially life-threatening situations have used a dual-core architecture in which a submicrocontroller monitors the working of the main microcontroller to ensure fail-safe operation.

Toshiba provides a unique single-core solution for fail-safe operations.  In addition, Toshiba's dual-core architecture allows for fail-operational and fault-tolerant capabilities.

Toshiba also offers custom solutions for high-quality and high-performance hybrid devices that integrate digital, analog and power circuits.  Various IP cores can be mixed according to customer needs, including interface units, power drivers and large logic blocks.  Toshiba prides itself on having years of experience and a proven track record.
