In order to meet the increased demand of having an inexpensive but sophisticated Motor control in White Goods, Toshiba has developed a line-up of MCUs with a special Hardware logic to drive Inverter type Motors. Those types of MCUs are named PMD (Programmable Motor Driver) and can control up to two Motors simultaneously as required e.g. in
The TMPM370FY is ideal for motion control in home appliances and industrial applications where it reduces the need for additional components while providing significant benefits over software-based vector control running on a microcontroller.
The PMDs are divided into two segments:-
- Standard Motor control MCUs are generally seen in the market with 6 channel PWM
- Sine-Wave PMDs are more "intelligent" with a highly developed Motor control unit that provides a lot of additional features such as a sine-wave arithmetic circuit.
