Toshiba’s compact MPEG-4/H.264 en- & decoder LSI with 3D graphics engine

The S1G is a compact media processor designed for mobile handset applications.  It consists of a MeP (Toshiba’s Media embedded Processor) and two hardware accelerators - an audio DSP and a JPEG codec - for fast multimedia processing such as video and still image recording and playback, as well as speech and audio recording and playback.

• Integrates a 3D graphics accelerator inherited from the T4G.
• Offers still image shooting at a maximum of 3M pixels in order to satisfy a demand for higher-resolution images.  Also the JPEG codec accelerator compresses and decompresses still images quickly.
• The MeP+@DSP accelerator supports the compression and expansion of AMR, MP3, AAC and WMA.
• The MeP+@DSP accelerator can flexibly adapt to modified specifications by having its firmware updated.
• Integrates a LCD controller that supports up to the QVGA size (240 × 320).
• Different types of external interfaces are available: SD card, serial I/O, NAND flash memory, I2C and general-purpose I/O ports..
