Industrial systems are mostly using semiconductor switches. These semiconductor switches are mainly converting electrical
energy. The key requirement has recently always be the reduction
of power loss across the involved semiconductor devices, which
is directly linked to the efficiency of the system: new
technologies are therefore continuously needed, and even more,
considering the recent world wide discussions and debates
related to CO2 emission and green energy.
Toshiba is
continuously moving at the edge of technology required to
achieve those goals:
- Chip design: planar, trench, super junction
- Connection technology: aluminium bonding wires,
copper connector / Al strap structures
- Package: bigger
packages, smaller high efficient packages.
The main
semiconductor devices are Power Mosfet, IGBT, Power IC, etc.
Using the new products will give smaller systems due to
smaller heat sinks as well as lighter and therefore lower priced
systems.
The industrial market on the other hand is including more and
more intelligence into the systems. MCU based control is
becoming a standard. Control loops can now be easily done and
adapted by software. Man Machine interfaces are improving the
safety and user friendly control of the high power industrial
equipment.

Communication technology is being increasingly used in industrial systems. More and more data is transferred via optical links
to the control unit of the system operators, even emails
can be received via the screen of a control panel.
From the optical to the processor and finally to the Power
devices TOSHIBA can offer attractive solutions to improve the
overall performance of the systems
