By adding a further powerful control unit on chip, Toshiba‘s latest PMD family is capable of driving Motors with sine-wave voltage. Thus the overall efficiency is increased and the electrical as well as the audible noise reduced. E.g. resulting in a silent Refrigerator operation with less
power consumption.
One other advantage of this approach is that it keeps flexibility for developers. Special implementations such as the addition of 3rd harmonics are possible by simple means.
Toshiba‘s PMDs can be easily programmed with all voltage shapes desired.
As with all others, those PMDs can interface to either 3-phase DC brushless or 3-phase AC induction motors.
