Toshiba has a successful history in producing various kinds of stepper motor controllers. Recent progress
in production technology has allowed further enhancements to the line up.
The new BCD stepper motor controllers feature smaller dissipated power losses, smaller packages and include more functions.
In terms of input control the line up can be divided into 2 major
groups: clock-in type controllers that include the complete sinus stepping function
internally, and phase input controllers which need all controlling signals from an MCU.
Clock-in type stepper motor controllers need only simple input signals
e.g. one clock at the input advances the stepper motor one step.
This makes high performance micro stepping capable motor controllers available
with a minimum of development time and even without explicit need of an MCU. This type of
controller is recommended for industrial projects.
In contrast the phase input type controllers require more development time but are cheaper which makes them suitable for large scale series production.
